Arena League 12 November 2011
The second round of the Arena League saw the Lydney/Cinderford team swimming at Horfield in Bristol where they pulled off an impressive win with 270 points: 2nd place was Cirencester with 233 points; 3rd was Bristol Penguins 217points; 4th Bishopsworth 204; 5th Backwell 189; 6th Wareham 140; 6th Merthyr Tydfil 132 points.
Nia Westlake celebrating her 18th birthday on the day, won the first race of the evening the 100m IM by 2 sec before winning the individual 100m butterfly and the Open 4 x 50m medley relay with teammates Rebecca Toomer, Lauren Mitchell and Ceris Westlake. In a very close race Rebecca won the Open 100m backstroke race by 100th second. For the Open Boys Jacob Salisbury won the both 100m IM and 100m butterfly, Sam Thomas won the 100m freestyle at the touch and Dean Embling won the 100m breaststroke by a margin of 3 sec. Sam and Dean were joined by Billy Harris and Louis Salisbury to win the Open Medley relay and they were also joined by Jacob Salisbury and Josh Peck in an exciting Open 6 x 50 freestyle relay winning by 2 sec.
The 11 year olds had excellent results with wins for Nya Levy in the 50m backstroke with a PB; Maddie Worgan in the 50m breaststroke with a PB; Rachael Brindley in the 50m freestyle and Andrew Cole in the 50m freestyle. Luke Mills, Max Turner, Andrew Cole and Thomas Butcher swam in the 11 year old 4 x 50m freestyle relay winning convincingly with a 10 sec lead; they also won their medley relay. For the 13 year olds, Sam Jenkins won the 50m backstroke; and PBs were achieved by Renee Pritchard in the 50m breaststroke and Mitch Savage 50m freestyle. The 13 year old team of Sam Jenkins, Frazer Montague, Morgan Peck and Mitch Savage won their medley relay by 9 sec and their freestyle relay.
Lydia Penn achieved a new time in the 100m backstroke and Josh Peck gained a PB in his 100m freestyle. The first leg of the freestyle relays showed improvements in times for Cerys Taylor, Gemma Daw and Jo Phelps, whilst Carrie Nichols improved her backstroke time in the medley relay.
