Gloucester City Level 3 Open Meet June 2010

Cinderford swimmers always enjoy the competitions at GL1, and the Gloucester City open meet was no exception. With many swimmers having their first try at the longer distances in competition and some amazing personal best times, the rattle of medals on the way home confirmed the event an outstanding success.
Terrific performances by Billy Harris saw him taking home 4 well deserved gold medals in 200m backstroke (with a great 10 sec PB), 100m IM, 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly, he also collected a speeding ticket for swimming too fast in the 100m backstroke! Nia Westlake entered 4 events and achieved gold medals with fantastic swims in all: 100m and 200m butterfly and 100m and 200m breaststroke (with a new PB in the 100m butterfly). 11 year old Morgan Peck had excellent swims winning 3 gold medals in the 100m IM, 200m freestyle (with a new PB) and 50m butterfly with his 200m race backstroke earning him a speeding ticket! Nathan Peck has now achieved sub one minute in the 100m freestyle with a time of 59.30 sec gaining a speeding ticket for his effort.
Lauren Mitchell put in fine performances to take home 3 gold medals for 100m freestyle, 200m backstroke and 200m IM; Jake Parker won gold for a great swim in his 50m butterfly and bravely taking the plunge with a new event for him also won gold in the 200m butterfly. Paige Bowles swam strongly into the gold medal position for 50m breaststroke and received a speeding ticket for her “speedy” 50m freestyle. Jason Games just touched first in a hard fought 50m freestyle to find himself picking up a speeding ticket before taking 2nd and 3rd in the 100m and 200m freestyle taking 2 and 3 sec off respectively.
Casey Davis excelled with a gold medal in the 50m butterfly, a10 sec PB in her 100m backstroke and 9 sec off both her 200m freestyle and 200m IM times. Maddie Worgan was very impressive swimming in 8 races and winning medals in all 8 events including silver in the 50m freestyle, 7th in the 100m freestyle, 4th place in both 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke (first time swam all 3 in competition) and taking 17 sec off her 5th place 100m IM. A silver medal was clinched by Tasha Bayliss swimming in a new event for her of 200m backstroke.
James Owston took a fantastic 16 sec off his 200m freestyle race and competed for the first time in the 200m backstroke and breaststroke races achieving 6th and 8th places respectively; with his brother Chris took an incredible 26 sec off his 200m freestyle and 5 sec off his 100m IM. Kim Smith took an amazing 35 sec off her 200m freestyle time to achieve a 7th place medal and Elena Morris took 10 sec off her 200m freestyle time to secure an excellent 6th place. Fine individual swims by 11 year old Jess Bayliss competing for the first time in the 200m breaststroke and 200m backstroke races gained her a 8th place medal in the backstroke.
Nya Levy took an incredible 25 sec off her 100m IM earning her a 8th place medal and she took 8 sec off her 6th place 50m butterfly, swimming for the first time in competition in the 100m breaststroke and 100m freestyle. Luke Nash looked comfortable taking 17 sec off his 100m IM time to finish in 7th place. Marvellous swims by Frazer Montague saw him take 6 sec off his 100m breaststroke and 6th place, also taking 6th place in the new distance for him of 200m breaststroke. Excellent swims from James Piercy resulted in a 6 sec PB in 100m IM and 50m butterfly time before competing at a new event 100m backstroke and achieving a 6th place medal. Misha Cameron took 5 sec off her 50m backstroke earning her a great 5th place.
Andrew Cole took 11 sec off his 100m IM time and swam in a new event the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke. Luke Mills took 5 and 6 seconds off her 50m breaststroke and backstroke times and swam in a new event for him of 100m backstroke. Chloe Phillips took 6 seconds off her breaststroke time. Morgan Jones took 7 sec off her 50m breaststroke and Chloe Kibble took 5 sec off her 50m butterfly. Morgan Jones and Chloe Kibble also took part in the 100m backstroke – a new event for both of them in competition. Kurtis Nash took 5 sec off his 100m IM time. Charlotte Clarkson swam in her first open meet achieving a new time for her 100m backstroke.
