Glos City Open Meet July 2011 (12 and under)
The younger swimmers from Cinderford converged on GL1 in a weekend of competition in the Gloucester City Open Meet; the swimmers showed no nerves and an on-form team enjoyed fantastic results and an abundance of personal bests.
11 year Luke Mills collected the gold medal for the 100m backstroke with a magnificent 10 sec PB and silver for his 50m backstroke, he also took an excellent 10 sec off his 100m IM and swam the new distance to him of 200m backstroke. Andrew Cole improved his 50m freestyle time to clinch the gold medal and achieved bronze in the 50m butterfly with a super 7 sec PB; in the 200m breaststroke he took a tremendous 13 sec off his PB.
Josh Gawin-Brian at 9 years of age was one of the youngest competitors for Cinderford; he swam to an incredible 25 sec PB in the 200m freestyle, a 4 sec PB in the 50m freestyle and in the 200m breaststroke was given a speeding ticket for beating the qualifying time! An excellent swim by Maddie Worgan saw her win gold for her 50m breaststroke with a 3 sec PB, she also took an amazing 7 sec off her 100m IM. Frazer Montague took silver in the 100m breaststroke with a great 4 sec PB, and then smashed his 200m breaststroke time by 22 sec to secure the bronze medal; another bronze for 50m freestyle completed his haul.
Nya Levy won bronze for her 100m backstroke with a 3 sec PB and made a superb 10 sec improvement in her 200m backstroke time to become the only Cinderford girl to achieve a speeding ticket. Sam Jenkins made remarkable improvements in his times winning bronze for his 200m freestyle with a 15 sec PB, he achieved a 14 sec PB in his 200m IM and had a strong swim in the 200m backstroke a new distance for Sam.
Storming ahead in her heat Rebecca Howard took an amazing 28 sec off her 200m freestyle race closely followed by her sister Chloe who took a terrific 12 sec off her 100m backstroke and 6 sec off her 100m IM, and on touching at the finish Chloe Kibble was seen to have taken a magnificent 19 sec off her 200m breaststroke time. Undaunted by the longer distances two 12 year olds used to competition took to the water showing great ability - Jess Bayliss in the 200m butterfly and Casey Davis in the 400m freestyle both achieved a new time and Casey improved her 200m IM by 6 sec. Other fantastic improvements were Emily Wilson taking 16 sec off her 100m backstroke, Chloe Phillips 10 sec off her 100m freestyle and 4 sec off her 50m breaststroke and Luke Nash 3 sec off his 50m freestyle.
