Glos City Open Meet July 2011 (13 and over)

Swimmers from Cinderford competed in the Gloucester City Open Meet; in a relaxed atmosphere the swimmers enjoyed great results and an abundance of personal bests.

In the medal stakes Lauren Mitchell led the way for the Cinderford team collecting a fantastic 5 gold medals for 100m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, the 200m IM and the 400m freestyle with some terrific performances.  Billy Harris had an excellent meet with gold medals in the 100m and 200m backstroke races and silver medals in the 200m IM and 400m freestyle – a new distance for Billy.  He was also outstanding in the 100m freestyle achieving a sub minute time of 59.76 sec earning him a speeding ticket for swimming too fast for this competition.   16 year old Tasha Bayliss collected a well deserved gold medal for her 200m backstroke race and silver medals in both the 100m backstroke and butterfly with some very strong performances.

Nick Watkins also had a terrific meet: he won the gold medal in the 50m butterfly with a 3 sec PB; silver in the 50m backstroke and a speeding ticket for an improved time in his 50m freestyle. He gained massive PBs in the 200m IM of 23 sec, 200m freestyle of 21 sec, and took 6 sec and 7 sec off his 100m freestyle and backstroke respectively.  Todd Montague had a superb 50m backstroke race improving his time to join the band of swimmers achieving a speeding ticket, fantastic swimming earned Todd a gold in the 100m freestyle with a new PB and bronze medals for the 200m backstroke and 200m IM with an great 9 sec improvement.

The Peck brothers can always be relied on at competitions to swim their best and this weekend was no exception: Nathan collected gold and 2 bronze medals for his 100m IM, 50m butterfly and 200m freestyle races, Josh received a speeding ticket for a very nifty 50m freestyle in a time of 29.22 sec, bronze for his confident 400m freestyle swim and a 4 sec PB for his 200m freestyle whilst youngest brother Morgan won an excellent gold for the 50m butterfly and 2 bronze  for 50m and 100m backstroke. 

George Fear swam in a new event for him – the 200m butterfly, he showed great improvement to win the gold medal before taking bronze in the 100m backstroke. Jake Parker achieved excellent silver and 2 bronze medals for the 50m backstroke, 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly races.  16 year old Kimberley Smith collected a bronze medal for her 50m freestyle with a well deserved 2 sec PB.  Kurtis Nash also swam in a new distance for him – an 200m breaststroke and collected a deserved bronze medal for the 50m freestyle. 

Other great times were achieved by James Owston who improved his 200m breaststroke time by 10 sec and 100m backstroke by 6 sec and his brother Chris who had a marvellous 5 and 4 sec PB in the 50m butterfly and backstroke races, Mitch Savage was fractionally off his PBs in the 100m freestyle and backstroke races but still put in sterling performances.
