South West Region Championships 2010

SW Region Champs

A record 8 swimmers journeyed to Millfield last weekend to represent Cinderford swimming club in the South West Region Championships.  The Club is very proud of the achievements of all the swimmers who have worked hard throughout the year to achieve this honour.

Dean Embling excelled in the breaststroke achieving places into the finals of both the 50m and 100m.  He sprinted past the opposition in the 50m breaststroke to win the a bronze medal in a time of 32.77 sec and also achieved 7th place in the final of the 100m breaststroke.  Dean also competed in the 200m breaststroke and the 200m IM.  Nia Westlake just missed out on final placings in the 400m IM and 400m freestyle coming 9th and 10th respectively in the heats.  Nia proved her all round expertise by also competing in the 100 and 200m freestyle; 50, 100 and 200m backstroke, 200m breaststroke and the 200m IM. 

Lauren Mitchell nursing an injury to her leg competed in the 100 and 200m backstroke, 100m breaststroke and 200m IM.  Rebecca Toomer put in sterling performances in the 100 and 200m backstroke finishing in 19th and 14th positions against a large field.   Kim Briscoe also took to the water in the 100m backstroke finishing in very acceptable 18th place.  The youngest competitor for Cinderford Ashleigh Embling, who was 14 the week before, swam to a new PB in her 100m breaststroke. Whilst two new faces to these Championships Nathan Peck and Billy Harris competed in the 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke races both showing excellent ability.

Rebecca, Lauren, Nia and Kim also joined forces to compete in the 400m medley relay event showing versatility and team spirit.
