South West Masters and Senior Age Group Sprint Challenge – 07/11/2009
12 members of Cinderford Swimming Club’s Masters team travelled to Newport on 7th November 2009. This was the largest team of Cinderford masters swimmers that have attended a meet with some swimmers experiencing their first competition and remarking on a thoroughly enjoyable day. A significant number of personal best times were achieved from all the swimmers (25 in total) and Nathan Peck’s personal best time for the 50 metres front crawl was an impressive 26.36 seconds. This brilliant swim gives Cinderford it’s first swimmer in the 30 year history of the club to swim this distance this fast.
Final placings within the relevant age groups included first place for Ceris Westlake, Nathan Peck and Don Leatherbarrow. Second places for Sue Jones and Brian Bradley and third places for Claire Leighton and Nicola Hall. The overall team score gave us an impressive total and with clubs being represented from all over the South West the ladies achieved 2nd place overall just behind Cardiff and the men came third.
Cinderford masters train at Heywood Leisure Centre on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Not all swimmers enter competitions some come for just for enjoyment, to improve fitness and to develop swimming technique.
