Tiger Bay Open Meet 2010

With several teams from Germany and Ireland amongst the 46 clubs taking part the Tiger Bay Open Meet had a truly international atmosphere. The 11 Cinderford swimmers swam tremendously well against stiff competition to secure 11 medals (inc. 5 championship records) and 16 pb’s over the weekend.

In the first event Nia Westlake gained 2nd place and a new PB in the 800 freestyle. She followed it up with good swims in both the 100 and 200 butterfly events to finish second in both,, she also finished 3rd in the 100 breaststroke. Excellent swims in the 200 and 400 freestyle and the 400 IM saw Nia smash the championship records and gain gold medals in all three events.

Dean Embling triumphed in the 200 breaststroke with an outstanding swim which saw  him gain a new championship record. His sister Ashleigh also excelled in the breaststroke events  gaining gold in the 200 with a championship record and bronze in the 100.

Nathan Peck had a fantastic swim in the 100 butterfly gaining a well-deserved silver medal and he  also lowered his previous best time in the 200 freestyle. Whilst in the 100 backstroke Billy Harris touched just outside the medals, finishing 4th.

A number of the clubs younger swimmers took part in their first long course (50m pool) events each gaining new PBs. Casey Davis swam superbly in the 50 and 100 freestyle, 50 butterfly and 50 breaststroke gaining PBs in each. Mitch Savage also improved his times in the 100 and 200 backstroke and the 200 freestyle. Morgan Peck had an excellent swim in the 200 freestyle gaining a PB whilst brother Josh lowered his time in the 50 freestyle. Todd Montague had excellent swims in the 100 freestyle and 200 IM to gain new PBs whilst brother Frazer swam a well executed 100 breaststroke to also gain a PB.
