Welsh Capital Masters Open Meet 8th May 2010
4 of the younger element of “Master” swimmers from Cinderford travelled to the International 50m Pool in Cardiff Bay for the Welsh Capital Masters Long Course Open Meet. The day ran smoothly and there was a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere between all the competitors.
Swimming in 15 events, Cinderford swimmers achieved 13 medals – 4 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze. 18 year old Nathan Peck, a veteran at 50m pool events, excelled in the 50 and 100m freestyle and 50 and 100m butterfly achieving gold in them all and a PB in his 100m freestyle, he also took silver in the 200m freestyle and 50m backstroke.
Ceris Westlake, although now at University regularly competes for the Club, she collected silver for her 50m butterfly and bronze for the 50 and 100m freestyle. Matt Rogers, the oldest competitor for Cinderford on the day at the ripe old age of 24, won 2 bronze medals in the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly. Jason Games who was competing in his first “Masters” competition having become 18 a couple months ago took 3rd place in the 100 and 200 freestyle races improving on his 100m time.
The swimmers did incredibly well and were very pleased with their performances and especially enjoyed the massages given on the day.
