Cinderford & District Swimming Club is a thriving competitive swimming club formed in 1977 and in 2004 a dedicated Masters section for swimmers aged 18 and over was added.
Our aim is to ensure that swimmers learn and develop good stroke technique, improve their speed, their self-confidence and meet many friends of differing ages. Comprising of over 150 swimmers, the Club competes at levels; training sessions are held four times a week at Heywood Leisure Centre, Causeway Road, Cinderford, Gloucestershire. Across the groups there are graded ability sessions for swimmers and all swimmers are given the opportunity to progress through the club to achieve their maximum potential.
The Club is run by a voluntary group of dedicated parents and others interested in the improvement of swimming in all aspects of the club, from the management committee to the teachers/coaches.
We also teach swimming from ASA Stage 6 or equivalent. We believe it is a successful combination, providing the young learners with the example and inspiration to become competent swimmers rather than giving up at 50 or 100 metres. We follow the ASA National Swim Award Plan awarding certificates at certain stages within their development and is a continuation of the swimming teaching plan in place at local swimming pools. Success is not only measured by such tangibles as awards, its also by individual improvement, self esteem and individual and team goals achieved.
The Club is a member of the Gloucestershire County A.S.A. This allows us to participate in the County Championships and club swimmers can also represent their County. All swimming clubs must belong to the Amateur Swimming Association (A.S.A.) through one of its Districts and Cinderford & District Swimming Club is affiliated to the ASA South West
